2023 Review

Well, it's been a little while since my last one of these posts but I finally reckon that I got out and about enough last year to actually make it worthwhile! The slight problem is that I realise that I'm perhaps growing up a wee bit these days and share far fewer photos than I ever used to so this whole post may end up just being a rehash of every photo I've ever shared this year. I think this happens for a few reasons...
- Each trip out I have a better idea of what I want from a day and, in general, the camera stays in the bag a lot longer.
- Much greater usage of a front-opening backpack rather than my shoulder bag means I generally have to stop to get the camera out.
- Adobe products seem to get bulkier and slower with each passing year.
- I am relearning the joy of just looking at a view once I've grabbed the photo I wanted, rather than dashing around (I still do that plenty beforehand!).

It all adds together to hopefully mean I'm a little more careful at every step... from choosing what to take in the first place, choosing which pictures to bother with processing and then plenty of self-doubt before choosing what eventually makes it into the public domain.

Seems weird to think that I started the year still in Chile!

A long overdue and wonderfully frozen visit to Kinder Scout.

High Cup Gill - after a cold, dull day... this happened.

A beautiful, late, March snow in Richmond.

A quick break to visit Poland/Slovakia.

And then we jump (only a month apart) into summer in York! A month of crazy dark skies and crisp sunlight on the fresh greens had me out almost all the time.

Yordas Cave & Waterfall - I just like this, personally, as I know how much effort went into building the final image up.

High Crag, Nidderdale.

Upper Nidderdale sunrise - a photo that I had had in mind for around a decade before finally making it up there!

Robin Hood's Bay, early heather.

The Cleveland Way, later heather, after a whole month of failed attempts at a nice heathery photo for the year!

My most popular photo of the year - a phone photo from sunrise above High Cup Nick whilst doing the Pennine Way! So glad we did the extra miles in the dark the night before to wake up to this view.

One from our trip to Croatia, Bosnia, Montenegro. Absolutely pissing down for this photo!

A successful return home after a failed day of chasing the fog around the Dales.

Some bonus light displays after the fireworks on 5th November.

Lendal Bridge and an unexpectedly well timed sunset.

My favourite place to stand and just exist, in my favourite weather.

A pretty special sunset after a race across town.
